Kiel Laboratories Inc. is looking for a scientist responsible for evaluating the safety and efficacy of potential drugs by studying how they interact, assessing potential toxic effects, and ensuring that new drugs are safe for human use through preclinical testing, often involving various studies, while also considering the drug’s mechanism of action and therapeutic potential. This position will play a crucial role in the drug development process by providing data to support regulatory submissions to agencies like the FDA.
Essential Duties:
- Designing and conducting preclinical toxicology studies: Performing in vitro and in vivo experiments on animals to assess the toxicity of drug candidates, including acute, sub chronic, and chronic toxicity studies.
- Analyzing data and interpreting results: Evaluating toxicity data from animal studies to identify potential safety concerns and determine appropriate dosage ranges for further development.
- Mechanism of action studies: Investigating how a drug interacts with biological systems to understand its potential side effects and therapeutic window.
- Regulatory compliance: Ensuring all preclinical studies adhere to relevant regulatory guidelines and standards set by agencies like the FDA.
- Collaboration with other teams: Working closely with researchers in drug discovery, clinical development, and regulatory affairs to share safety data and inform drug development decisions.
- Report writing and presentation: Preparing detailed reports summarizing study findings and presenting data to internal and external stakeholders.
Experience Requirements:
- Advanced degree in pharmacology or toxicology: Typically, a PhD in pharmacology, toxicology, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of biological systems and disease processes: Knowledge of cellular biology, physiology, and relevant disease pathways.
- Expertise in experimental design and data analysis: Proficiency in statistical analysis and experimental techniques used in toxicology studies.
- Animal handling and research experience: Ability to perform animal studies ethically and in accordance with relevant regulations.
- Excellent communication and writing skills: Clear and concise communication of complex scientific findings to diverse audiences.
